Where the Story Meets the Song
For Doug Vale, music has always been a language of the crossroads. Raised in San Antonio, he grew up immersed in a 1980s cultural tapestry where traditional country and contemporary rock collided with Mexican folk and Tex-Mex conjunto. This early exposure to a world where "North meets South" sparked a lifelong fascination with the seeds of songwriting—how a story is born and the universal themes that make it grow.
For the past 20 years, Doug has called Honolulu home, finding a deep appreciation for Hawaii’s unique "East meets West" cultural diversity. His journey through the Honolulu music scene has been as eclectic as his influences: from the high-energy, gritty stages of Chinatown to a stint as a comedy musician with the Cherry Blossom Cabaret, a professional burlesque performermance company.
Now a solo guitarist and singer, Doug strips songs down to their most honest form. His performances are a reflection of a life lived between cultures, blending technical skill with the occasional story that connects the music to the listener. Whether he’s drawing on his classical foundations or his years of band experience, Doug’s mission is simple: to find the common threads in the songs we love and the stories that define us all.
